Since Tuesday (Black Tuesday) earlier this week, Makerere University students have been carrying out strikes following the 15% increment in the tuition of the institution. They called upon the university administration to consider students from humble backgrounds and look deep into the issue of affordability of a course at the campus. Students claim that a big number or of them have this year dropped out of the institution because of this tuition increment.
The military yesterday stormed the halls of residence at night, beat up and arrested suspected ring leaders of the recent strike. Many students have got big injuries and some need prayers for their life.
Today, students have promised to change the battle front and have a twitter strike with the hashtags #FeesMustFall, and #FreeMyTuition. The students are planning to storm Twitter for two full hours tweeting about this and carrying out live chats.
At first it looked a joke but it’s no more. It has got to the extent of doors being broken, property being destroyed, students are being battered and locked up in cells. Of recent, Siperia Mollie, a student leader of the school of psychology was beaten up at complex hall in her room and left for dead before taking all her communication gadgets.
“We are fighting for the cause of our future generations. Parents are seated at home watching and calling us Hooligans yet in real sense we are fighting for their own good. Our parliament is busy snoring just because their dense children are comfortably studying abroad,” a student exclaimed
The strike is set to begin at exactly 3 pm.
