Makerere University Bows to Students’ Pressure, Promises to Pay Government Allowances

Makerere university management has been over-powered by Government sponsored students who had vowed to strike if their allowances were not cleared by November 2nd.

In a letter dated October 13th, the president Makerere University government students association ( MUGOSA) Waidembe Yusuf Musomesa served the university bursar with a 10 day ultimatum to clear their allowances or else prepare for a strike.

Yusuf Waidembe Musomesa, who is also contesting to be Makerere’s next guild president, is walking with his head up high after the university bursar pledging to clear government students’ allowances by November 1st.

The consensus was reached after a closed-door meeting between Yusuf Waidembe Musomesa, president MUGOSA, and the university bursary.

In a letter dated 19th October, Evarist Bainomugisha the university bursar said management had finally agreed to pay government sponsored students their food and living out allowance for semester two, academic year 2020/2021.
