As the rest of Uganda is discussing the now 43 presidential candidates, Makerere University has yet continued to soar atop all high institutions in the nation. The university under the college of Computing and Information Sciences (CIT) has unearthed new methods in which our normal country man can better his farming.
All this research has been done under a project called “Artificial Intelligence Research and Data Sciences Labs” where some of the best brains in technology have come up with simplest ways in which a normal farmer can use technology to cheaply solve his day to day farm related difficulties.
The projects includeMobile Crop Surveillance (Mcrops) in which an application for detection of the white fly which causes cassava mosaic is now on the market. This only requires a farmer to take a picture of his crop which is accessed by the application to diagnose its rightful disease. Better yet, the project not only works on agricultural related matters but can also be used in other fields to improve data sharing mechanisms, collecting data and improving results.
The lab conducts a free Al seminar every Thursday from 10-11am in which any interested persons including researchers, farmers, major decision makers and anyone with a zeal for more knowledge can attend as we better our nation.
