Makerere University Government Sponsored Students through their association (MUGOSA) President Omaria Emma Oitebe have cried out to the university management over cumulative loans hitting their backs they acquired to clear some living expenses.
In a letter issued to the university bursar, Oitebe portrayed urgency for the stipulated funds expected in July.
“Some of the students have financial challenges, we incurred cumulative loans to clear rent and access to some academic needs and pledged to refund the debts in July. Therefore any slight delay in processing our allowances costs us,” Oitebe stated.
His letter dated June 30, 2022 is a reference to the earlier communications from the Dean of Students, Ms. Winfred Kabumbuli, and the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe which indicated that the remaining balance of shs. 380,000 which equates to 50 percent of their allowances will be paid off at the beginning of the Financial Year 2022/2023 commencing tomorrow.
“All the communications had a uniform message concerning the payment of 50 percent of food and living out allowances that management had agreed to pay the slot of 50 percent upon receiving the first quarter cash releases from the government in July 2022.” the letter adds.
Makerere University government sponsored students are entitled to an amount of shs. 760,000 that caters for their accommodation while at campus.
