Makerere University has reinstated the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences (BEVS) course.
This, according to the Office of the University Secretary, was confirmed during the Council’s 158th meeting held on 8th December 2022.
The University Council considered a report from the Quality Assurance and Gender Committee on the reinstatement of the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences noting that:
- Following the restructuring of Academic programmes, it was recommended that the BSC Meteorology, Bachelor of Geographical Sciences and Bachelor of Environmental Sciences be merged into one programme.
- The Department of Environmental Sciences appealed against the decision to merge the programmes and requested a reinstatement of the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences since the graduates had different focuses and competencies.
- The Quality Assurance and Gender Committee considered and recommended that the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences be allowed to continue running as a standalone programme.
Accordingly, the Council resolved to approve the reinstatement of the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences (BEVS) as a standalone academic programme.
The course will be under the Department of Environmental Management, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAEs).
