Makerere University has shortlisted 57 female students for this year’s tuition waiver Scholarships offered by the University Council.
The shortlisted students will be interviewed by the Selection Committee that was appointed by Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor.
According to Ritah Namisango, the Public Relations Officer of Makerere University, out of the 57 shortlisted students, only 20 students will be chosen.
Makerere University Council offers 20 scholarships to female students joining the University every year. The beneficiaries of this tuition waiver are catered for by the university until completion of their studies.
“A student who is offered the tuition waiver scholarship by Makerere University Council is catered for until completion of the academic degree. Such a student should ensure that she is on normal progress,” Namisango said.
Inorder to qualify for this tuition waiver scholarship, female applicants must be from a genuinely poor socio-economic background and must have been in their first year admitted to Makerere University main campus.
Among the shortlisted students, four students are from the School of Law, two from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity, five from College of Natural Sciences, six from College of Computing and Information Sciences, 13 from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences – CHUSS and five from the College of Health Sciences.
Additionally, nine students are from the College of Education and External Studies, three from the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology – CEDAT, five from the College of Business and Management Sciences – CoBAMS while four are from the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
