Just a few days after staff of Uganda’s best and oldest university laid down tools until the government pays their arrears and salary enhancements, and only a few days to the beginning of the new academic year 2016/2017, Makerere University has subcontracted people to begin the issuing of admission letters to students revealed Prof Ddumba Ssentamu, the university Vice Chancellor.
The non-teaching staff of Makerere University laid down tools because the university has not yet cleared their arrears and salary enhancements for quite a while. Meanwhile several students were still stuck at the University’s senate building awaiting their admission letters since the beginning of the semester is 6th of August [Saturday].
Prof. Ddumba assured students that before the close of Tuesday [Yesterday], the admission letters would be issued to them from the main building and not the senate building as earlier communicated.
“Let them hire outsiders but let them also know that in case of any mistake, they are responsible” John added.
Dr. Tanga Odoi the chairperson MAK convocation however seemed to be in favor of the idea. He gave a go ahead to the outsource development saying the university should go ahead and release the admission letters as negotiations go on to look for the way out.
