Makerere University has promised to pay the remaining 50 percent balance on government sponsored students’ allowances as soon as the first cash of the new financial year 2022/2023 is released.
According to the letter issued by Mr. Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira, the Acting university bursar, to the Makerere University’ Government Sponsored Students President Omaria Emma Oitebe, students should be patient until the government releases their money,
“This is to re-affirm that the university management is committed to clearing the above mentioned last remaining 50 percent balance to government sponsored students as soon as the first cash release for the new financial year 2022/2023 is received and warranted,” the letter partly read.
By the end of last week, a section of these government sponsored students cried out for their allowances to clear the cumulative loans that were hitting their backs and therefore a delay in releasing this money will cost them their property they used as security to acquire various loans.
The university paid half allowances (shs 380,000) to these students earlier last month and they are still waiting for the same amount that makes 50 percent of the entitled total allowances of shs. 760,000.
