Information coming in from Makerere University indicates that the management is yet to recover over UGX 900M paid to more than 1,000 non-teaching staff in error back in 2017. The university’s records show that some staff on salary scale M11, who earn Shs3.01m were paid Shs3.18m at salary scale M10, in accordance to the new salary structure of 2018/2019.
Other staff members on salary scale M14, who earn Shs1.3m, were paid Shs1.9m on M12 scale while those on salary scale M15, who earn Shs1.1m were paid Shs1.9m at salary scale M12.
The error was confirmed by former University bursar, Augustine Tamale, who revealed that excess money was paid to staff by mistake in a letter dated June 30, 2017. He added that the money paid in excess was UGX 971m and recoverable from the staff.
