Following a communication from the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) regarding reopening of universities, Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has come out to guide the student body of Makerere.

NCHE in a letter written to all Vice Chancellors and Principals of Institutions of Higher Learning directed that all schools remain closed for more three months. The finalists were however allowed to report while observing SOPs.

“The National Council of Higher Education is in receipt of a communication from the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports informing us that based on the advise of the President Scientific Advisory Committee, the President has guided that that all Higher Education Institutions should continue studying online using ODeL system for at least another three months,” the letter read in part.

Now, Prof Nawangwe, through his Twitter revealed when the new final year students will report. He guided as follows;

“Gallant Makerereans! I salute you and congratulate you on keeping yourselves safe from COVID-19. Please observe all the SOPs and remain alive, Uganda needs you alive. Following the Government directive, we’re making arrangements to receive finalists as planned on 6th Feb, 2021.

The rest of the students will continue studying online. Freshers will register and receive non-residential orientation beginning Monday 1st February. Please stay tuned for further instructions.”

We shall keep you posted.
