Freshers at Makerere University did not turn up in larger numbers for their bazaar as had been anticipated by the event organisers leaving vendors idle at their stalls with little or no customers to attend to.
Vendors at the Makerere bazaar paid at least UGX100,000 for space but registered no returns despite the heavy investment they made.
The low turn up has been attributed to many things among them being the disappointed many faced on the bazaar’s first day where they turned up only to be welcomed by an almost empty rugby ground.
During an interview with this reporter, Tabusa Faith, the 89th minister for social affairs, said there was a short notice approval of the event by the administration and this had a knock on effect on the preparation for the event.
Tabusa also noted that they were affected by the change of venue from Mitchell hall to the rugby grounds.Time also affected the success of the event as it had to end by 8 every day yet most students prefer turning up for events at night.
According to some freshers, the bazaar was a flop because it didn’t meet their expectations such as vibe and fun as they spent most of their valuable time merely walking around.
Many purchases weren’t made because the variety scope of the items on sale was rather small.
