Makerere University has today, 23rd April, 2024 launched the 4th edition of the #MakRun2024 organized by Makerere University Endowment Fund.
The run is aimed at supporting students living with disabilities and enhancing inclusivity within the university community.
The #MakRun2024 which is scheduled for 18th August 2024, will be held under the theme, “Run for Students with Disabilities,” highlighting the university’s commitment to creating a more inclusive academic environment where every student can thrive.
Speaking at the event, on behalf of the University Management, the Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe extended sincere appreciation to the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees led by Dr. Margaret J. Kigozi for their selfless dedication and tireless efforts in laying a solid foundation for the Fund.
He also noted that despite the initial uncertainties, the current Board has built on the efforts of the inaugural Board and embraced the monumental task to mobilise and invest resources to grow the fund.
The newly appointed Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Hon. Balaam Barugahara graced the launch as the chief guest.
“I am here not only to launch the #MakRun2024 but also to endorse it, support its organisation and come run come August 18, 2024. I pledge my unwavering support to this noble cause, and I urge all present to join me in participating in the Makerere Run,” he stated.
The proceeds from this year’s run will go towards the construction of a state-of-the-art Students’ Centre and Disability Support Unit at Makerere University.
The Students Centre will feature essential facilities such as a business hub, innovation center, dining area, and a dedicated Disability Support Unit, ensuring that students with disabilities have access to the resources they need to excel in their studies.
Mr. John Chris Ninsiima, the Chair of the organizing committee applauded all attendees for embarking on a journey to make a difference in the lives of students at Makerere University.
