A 28-year-old man accused of illegally practicing law and posing as a qualified advocate has been remanded to prison by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Andrew Nsubuga Sekibaamu Jenkins, a resident of Najjera in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, appeared before Senior Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko and denied two charges brought against him under the Advocates Act, Cap. 295.

Prosecutors allege that between February and December 2025, Nsubuga unlawfully acted as an advocate for Nagadya Linda in Civil Suit No. 188 of 2024 before the High Court Land Division in Kampala, despite not being qualified to practice law.
Nsubuga denied both charges when they were read to him in court. The Magistrate ordered that he be remanded to prison as the case proceeds.
The matter is now set to continue through the court process, with further proceedings expected to establish whether Nsubuga did in fact hold himself out as a qualified advocate without the requisite legal qualifications, in violation of the Advocates Act.
Cases of individuals falsely posing as qualified professionals, including advocates, have periodically drawn concern from Uganda’s legal community, given the risks such conduct poses to unsuspecting clients relying on what they believe to be properly licensed legal representation.
