More twisted events continue to unfold as Desire Mirembe’s family members continue to demand for justice. Mathew Kirabo, the prime suspect in the murder of Desire Mirembe was nowhere to be seen as his sureties showed up at Mukono High Court with Police escorts on Monday.
According to the sureties that include; Kirabo’s mother, Imelda Wabulembo, uncle Bernard Mbayo and relative Elizabeth Baleke, their lives are in danger following multiple threats.
Despite being surprised to see the sureties heavily guarded, Emmanuel Musoke who is the father of the late Desire Mirembe noted that they do not have a problem with it.
“They are now being guarded, we have heard that they said we were planning to attack them but that is not true, we are a family that respects the law,” Musoke told NBS, a local television channel.
“There is absolutely no problem with that,” Defence lawyer Dalton Apwonya said while explaining that the trio has a right to protect themselves if their lives are in danger.
Judge Henry Kaweesa Isabirye did not show up for the hearing, leaving both parties stranded at court. It is worth recalling that last week, the sureties paid UGX 150 million in a bid to avoid serving jail term.
Kirabo is accused of murdering his then girlfriend, Mirembe in cold blood back in 2015. The two were medical students at Makerere University.
Kirabo, who was arrested over the mentioned case was later granted bail to finish his studies before securing a job at Mulago Hospital .
