As fellow students are hunting for jobs, former Makerere University student leaders are on the other hand interested in serving people even after finishing their studies. Reliable intel reaching Campus Bee indicates that Derrick Tumwesige, a former student of Social Sciences at Makerere is warming up to join mature politics.
The already fired-up Tumwesige is reportedly preparing to run for District Youth Chairperson, Kiryandongo District come 2021.
Tumwesige is remembered as one of the vocal leaders that spearheaded the age limit demonstration dubbed K’ogikwatako within Makerere University. In a series of Facebook posts, Tumwesige vowed to protect the Ugandan Constitution especially the lifting of the age limit (article 102b) two years ago.
We have further learned that Tumwesige will not be running under any political party and the latest communication confirms that the former Makerere student will contest as an independent candidate.
With his slogan “A Man of Action”, Tumwesige joins other former Makerere former students who are set to join national politics among whom include; Roy Ssemboga (former guild president), Kato Paul (former guild president) among others.
