In a letter dated May 26th, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has announced reporting dates for final year students. The letter, signed by Assoc. Professor Nixon Kamukama indicates that MUST top officials yesterday held a meeting after which several resolutions were made.
The meeting resolved that there will be orientation of some staff members as well as students by 8TH June 2020 after which guidelines on how to operate will be communicated. “
“It was agreed that the FOM would organize an orientation of some staff and students by 8th June 2020. They presented a budget which caters for protective equipment for staff and students. University Management is to work to ensure that funds are made available so that these items are procured before university is opened to students and staff.” The letter reads in part.
The letter also indicates that the semester will resume on 8th June and it will close on 7th August 2020 for final year students.
“As guided by MOES, the university will open for lecturers on Monday 8th June and close on 7th August 2020 catering for the nine weeks which students were yet to complete.” The letter reads further.
The university has apparently come up with ways of catering for international students as well as those from bordering districts with the government’s guidance. It should be recalled that President Museveni suspended movement in bordering districts in a bid to prevent COVID-19. International students were also affected as boarders remain closed over the same matter.
It is said that MUST has over 80 international students who didn’t go back to their home countries and are currently residing around Mbarara. The university is reportedly holding more consultative meetings to see how students can hold field studies.
