MUST Admits Students Across Eight Programmes In Engineering, Health Sciences And Science Education — Full List Released April 24
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has officially released its Government Sponsorship National Merit Admission List for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, with the Academic Registrar’s Department confirming that admission letters will be ready for pick-up beginning Monday, May 11, 2026.
The list, signed by Academic Registrar Martha Kyoshaba Twinamasiko and dated April 24, 2026, covers eight undergraduate programmes across three faculties — and reveals several striking patterns about who is getting into Uganda’s second largest public university on government merit, where they are coming from, and which programmes are most competitive.
Medicine Dominates With 35 Admitted Students
The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme is by far the largest single admission cohort on the list, with 35 students admitted on government sponsorship — more than any other programme at the university this cycle.
Of the 35 MBChB admits, 15 are female and 20 are male. The top-scoring female admits — Atugonza Renata, Tusuubira Abigail, Nakitende Joweria, Auma Rose Mary, and Ahikiriza Elizabeth — all scored a weight of 54.5, making them the joint highest-weighted admits across the entire government list. The top male MBChB admits scored 53.0.
The geographical spread of MBChB admits is striking. Students came from as far apart as Hoima, Luweero, Mpigi, Lira, Isingiro, Wakiso, Mbarara, Rukiga, Buyende, Sheema, Apac, Ntungamo, Buliisa, Kampala, Kanungu, Manafwa, Kamuli, Mityana, and Masaka — a near-national sweep that underscores the programme’s drawing power across Uganda.
Engineering: Only 18 Admitted Across Three Programmes
The three engineering programmes on the list — Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, plus Mechanical and Industrial Engineering — admitted a combined 18 students, making engineering the most competitive faculty relative to national demand.
Biomedical Engineering admitted 5 students. The top scorer was Abeja Patranella Odoch (F, Kole, 54.3), jointly with Kobugabe Monica (F, Kabarole, 54.3).
Civil Engineering admitted 5 students, with top scorer Naava Grace (F, Masaka, 53.9) — one of the few programmes where a female student topped the list.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering admitted 5 students, topped by Atamba Noreen (F, Mukono, 54.0).
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering admitted 6 students, all male, with Kambera Fazir from Kayunga topping at 52.6.
A notable pattern across all engineering programmes: female students consistently scored at or near the top of their respective cohorts — a finding that challenges assumptions about gender and STEM performance in Uganda.
Health Sciences Beyond Medicine
Beyond MBChB, the Faculty of Health Sciences admitted students into three additional programmes.
Bachelor of Nursing Science admitted 5 students from districts including Lira, Nakaseke, Soroti, Rukungiri, and Jinja, with top scorer Ojur Precious (F, Lira, 54.2).
Bachelor of Pharmacy admitted 15 students — the second largest cohort after MBChB — with the two highest scorers being female: Taidkwiza Fausta (F, Masaka, 54.3) and Nnalinya Dianah Praise (F, Kampala, 54.3). All 15 pharmacy admits scored 52.9 or above, making it one of the most tightly scored programmes on the list.
Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy admitted just 4 students — the smallest cohort on the entire list — with Aber Sabrina (F, Lamwo, 54.3) as the top scorer.
Science Education: The Largest Combined Faculty
The Faculty of Science contributed two education programmes that together account for the largest combined number of students on the list.
Bachelor of Science Education (Biological) admitted 34 students across a wide range of districts. The programme drew students from Bushenyi, Mukono, Kole, Rubirizi, Jinja, Mitooma, Masaka, Kanungu, Nakasongola, Kamuli, Rakai, Lwengo, Rukungiri, Kagadi, Mbarara, Kasese, Kotido, Kampala, Gomba, Kisoro, Bugweri, Ibanda, Sheema, Mpigi, and Bukomansimbi — one of the most geographically diverse cohorts on the entire list.
Bachelor of Science Education (Physical) admitted 31 students, all from the 2025 UACE cohort. The programme notably had the widest weight range of any programme on the list — from a high of 53.0 (Taremwa Nickson, Rukungiri) down to 45.1 for three students from Bukomansimbi, Kanungu, and Kwania — suggesting that entry into Physical Science Education on government sponsorship is somewhat more accessible than health sciences or engineering programmes.
Key Patterns Across The Entire List
Several statistics from the full admission list stand out.
Every single admitted student on the list sat their UACE in 2025 — there are no deferred or repeat candidates from earlier cohorts, suggesting that MUST’s national merit selection heavily favours the most recent examination sitting.
Female students outscored or matched male students at the top of almost every programme’s cohort — Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MBChB, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy all had female students at the top of their respective lists.
Wakiso District produced the single largest number of admitted students across all programmes, appearing repeatedly across MBChB, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Science Education lists — a reflection of both population size and school quality in the greater Kampala metropolitan area.
The highest weight score on the entire list is 54.5, achieved by five female MBChB students. The most competitive programme by average entry weight is Pharmacy, where all 15 admits scored between 52.9 and 54.3 — a range of just 1.4 points across the entire cohort.
