Moroto College, Mountains of the Moon and Busoga Universities to Commence Operations in 2022/2023 Financial Year

Government has allocated shs 4.14 trillion towards the education sector, of which Moroto Constituent College of Agriculture, Mountains of the Moon, and Busoga universities are to obtain a lion’s share in the recently read budget for financial year 2022/2023.

The trio will take effect of operation in this same financial year.

According to Hon. Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development who delivered the budget at Kololo Independence Grounds Tuesday, June 14, said the education sector was one that had deteriorated during the COVID-19 induced lockdown, and they are looking forward towards revamping it.

“During the COVID-19 induced lockdown period, many teachers abandoned the profession, and classrooms got dilapidated in several institutions. But now efforts have started to revamp the education sector,” Minister Kasaija said.

On the same note, the construction, upgrading and equipping of vocational education centres will take forth.

“Bushenyi, Lira and Elgon technical institutions will be completed” he added.

The minister however said that Bunyoro University will kick-start consultations on operationalizing in the next financial year 2023/2024.

The three universities that are set to benefit from this 2022/2023 financial year’s funds were established as public institutions following a directive by the president Museveni in line with providing affordable education to students across the country.

Mountains of the Moon, and Busoga universities were initially private institutions.

The budget delivery event was graced by the President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Museveni, his Vice, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, and many other government dignitaries.
