Kabarole Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvia Rwabwogo, mostly famous for taking to court Brian Isiko of YMCA for sending her love messages has been miserably defeated in the just concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) Primaries.
According to final results released by Alice Nikirungi, the NRM registrar for Fort Portal City, Rwabwogo collected 5,268 votes while Linda Irene Mugisa got 14,646 votes. The other contestants in the race were Judith Mukidi who got 2,071 votes while Sylvia Kihunde got 594 votes.
In the 2016 general elections, Rwabwogo, a radio presenter then and district councilor defeated Victoria Rusoke to emerge victor of the Kabarole District Woman MP position.
The Buganda Road Court, 7 months ago, dismissed the cyber harassment and offensive communication cases against Mr. Isiko in which it is alleged that he sent love messages to Ms. Rwabwogo. Isiko, a YMCA student was dragged to court by the Kabarole legislator for tirelessly confessing his love for her. Isiko was also arrested in 2018 shortly after the legislator’s complaint was filed.
The YMCA student had been undergoing trial for 2 years but was discharged by court after the MP refused to go for cross-examination.
“From 2018, the witness has never appeared in court yet the accused has been appearing. This shows that the witness is not interested in the matter. In the interest of justice, the case has been dismissed and the accused is set free unless charged with other offences. Bail money should be refunded,” Magistrate Stella Amabilisi ruled.
