Kyambogo University officials were today kicked out of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting because they appeared without Charles Okello, the University Secretary.
The officials were supposed to answer to various questions in the Auditor general’s report for the financial year 2019/2020.
It is at that point that the committee chased them away on grounds that they didn’t come along with the Secretary but instead came with Deputy, Arthur Katongole.
Katongole tried to provide an explanation on why Okello was absent to the committee which is chaired by Hon Nandala Mafabi, the Budadiri West Member of Parliament but was all in vain.
According to Hon Nandala, it was illegal to proceed with the meeting in the absence of Okello who is the major accounting officer of the University.
Nandala further ordered the officials to return next week on condition that they have the full documentation to support their answers inclusive of which is spending money on unbudgeted items at the university.
Another query they need to answer to is how they spent Shs 4.6 Billion on domestic arrears yet the actual budget provision was Shs 1.1Billion
In his written response to the committee, the Kyambogo University Secretary Okello noted that the increase in revenue projections was based on the increased teaching space on basis of admitting more students.
