Spearheaded by Romulus Tusingwire, the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) guild president, the institute’s students’ leadership has launched an initiative to save school dropouts who cannot raise tuition to continue studying.
Tusingwire and his fellow leaders have organized a car wash and marathon scheduled to be held on 9th November 2019 at Esteri Grounds. Tickets for the marathon go for UGX 3,000 while the car wash will be UGX 20,000 for students and UGX 50,000 for the public.
According to Joseph Wandoga, the campaign’s Publicity Secretary, it was observed that 3 out of 10 student who start university do not complete because of tuition related issues.
“It was observed that out of the ten students who join university, three of them may not finish due to failure to raise tuition. The car wash tuition campaign was started by HE; Tusingwire Romulus right from the time he was a chief fresher on one event he even sold his laptop to pay tuition for one of the students.“ Wandoga said.
He added that this is not the first time they are organizing a car wash while explaining that they have invited the university’s Principal Prof Waswa Balunywa on the next edition.
“The first time it was carried out we managed to raise 7million shillings, then the second time we raised 8.2million shillings and now we are strategically planning for the 3rd edition on 9th November with the principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) being the main guest ,it’s a move that shows as students we can do something than depending on the government.” Wandoga added.
