The security guard, now known as Godi, of Landmark Hostel at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) shot dead a suspected robber following a tussle for a gun. As Police investigations on the matter are still ongoing, he has come up to tell his side of the story.
Godi says he discovered that students’ lives and property were at risk when he saw one of the robbers taking off with property belonging to students. He says they were three of them, all coordinating to deprive students of their laptops and phones.
“I realized the hostel had been broken when I saw the three robbers taking off with the valuables.” Godi explained.
He ordered them to stop but instead one of the thugs allegedly turned against him and attempted to disarm him. The guard during the struggle managed to overpower the suspected thug and shot him.
He continued to say that the robbers apparently used master keys to force open the doors and access rooms of two female students stealing laptops and phones.
Police said the deceased’s identity is not yet known because he had no identification documents on him whereas his two colleagues remain in hiding.
“One laptop and 4 mobile phones that had been stolen from the students’ rooms have been recovered and identified by the owners,” Owoyesigyire said.
“Investigations and the hunt for the other two suspects is still ongoing.” The Police Spokesperson added.
