Makerere University Business School Academic Staff Association (MUBASA) Chairperson, Mr. Brian Muyomba this week felt the wrath and pettiness of the MUBS Mbarara campus Assistant Academics Director, Dr. Richard Akisimire.
It all begun when when Dr Akisimire posted in the MUBS Staff WhatsApp group wondering why lecturers were not marking the recently concluded end of semester examinations. “Dear team, marking is underway but it’s unfortunate that i am seeing nobody in the marking room,” he posted.
This prompted a response from Mr Muyomba; “Academic staff are on industrial action. Underpayment must end,” the MUBASA Chairperson hit back. Frustrated, Dr Akisimire removed Mr Muyomba after reading his reply.
MUBS lecturers have been on a sit down strike since November over pay. The examinations that were concluded in December were invigilated by the non teaching staff.
The Finance Ministry this week committed shs4.9bn for the MUBS lecturers’ salaries. According to a letter written by Patrick Ocailap, the Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, seen by Campus Bee, government has committed a supplementary budget of 4.92 Billion Shillings to harmonize salaries of all staff in the fourth quarter of the current financial year
