Kato Paul, the 83rd Guild President of Makerere University – elected on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket has been elected the District Youth Chairman of Bunyangabu District on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Kato Paul, who put up an “Activist” propaganda prior to the election was arrested with his FDC colleagues down town for striking against the closure of Makerere University in November 2016.
The former Mitchell Hall resident and student of Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAED), beat Abdul Kareem Zilitwaula an Independent Candidate that has since joined the NRM too.
“I’ve been elected youth chairperson (NRM) for Bunyangabu district today. I am grateful for the support. Aluta continua!” KP, as he was fondly referred to at Makerere tweeted.
The reactions from his supporters at Makerere and fellow students, in response to his new party and direction are exactly what you are expecting and we managed to capture some for you.
“My trust for people who always become Makerere guild president has been going down for a while. But sir I also remember you as a public servant (Administrator at Makerere University) did you resign your job? Or if one is NRM they don’t have to resign.” Brian Atuheire asked the former Makerere University Guild President.
Kato Paul, who rode to victory over a promise for a “fly over” connecting Makerere University to Kikoni, had some students reminding him of his unfulfilled promises.
