Lecturers, students, friends and relatives yesterday gathered at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) to attend the requiem mass of slain International Hospital of Kampala (IHK) Doctor Cathy Agaba who happens to be an almnus.
While speaking at the mass yesterday, Dr. Joseph Ngonzi, one of the deceased’s former lecturers noted that Agaba was planning to go back to the Mbarara-based university to pursue a Master’s Degree in Internal Medicine.
“Rose is here because she was expecting Cathy in her department soon. She wanted to do internal medicine and we were also expecting her as a faculty.” Said Dr. Ngozi who taught Agaba when she was studying Medicine and Surgery at the same university back in 2015.
Most lecturers, friends and former classmates described the late Agaba as a humble, kind, open minded and a very intelligent girl, who was among the best performing students, and above all full of life.
Dr. Simeon Eloba, a former guild president and also Agaba’s classmate at MUST noted that she had started teaching French lessons in her free time, before praising the deceased’s intelligence.
“When all of us felt fatigued from anything, we passed by Room Five (Cathy’s room). She was a sole yoga instructor and no one trained her.” Eloba said.
Esther Tamara, another former classmate to Agaba described her as a very brilliant girl, who was always first in class since their days in S.1.
“She was really a brilliant girl even from S.1, she was always at the top of our class and was friendly. I don’t remember seeing her angry, she had the weirdest laugh but whenever she laughed, you wouldn’t want her to finish.” Tamara said.
Tamara added that Cathy was also the best student at the Medical School, who had a 5th year’s determination and dedication while still in 3rd year.
While attending the service, mourners lit candles in memory of the murdered doctor, a similar service held at Our Lady of Africa Catholic Church in Mbuya yesterday. Agaba’s body was found in a septic tank on Monday in Muyenga B Zone, Makindye Division after being murdered by the hospital’s watchman, according to Police reports.
The body of Dr. Cathy Agaba is set to be laid to rest today (Wednesday) in Kashari North Constituency, Kigongi Sub-county.
