Makerere University (Mak) Senior Lecturer, Prof. Mwambutsya Ndebesa has broken silence over the highly demanded credentials for President Yoweri Museveni saying that he (president) is a graduate at University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) situated in Tanzania.
This comes at a time when different top activists like Former Ethics Minister – Miria Matembe, have challenged the President to unveil proof of his academic background. To mention, of recent; City Lawyer, Muwada Nkunyingi petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to reveal to the public, Museveni’s academic credentials.
Prof. Mwambutsya eased the pressure mounted on the quest for the President’s education background saying that Museveni graduated as Yoweri ‘Tibuhaburwa’ Museveni from the Tanzania-based institution.
“President Museveni is my alumnus. We are both graduates of Dar es Salaam University, him in the 1960s and me in the 1980s,’ Prof Mwambutsya said.
“There has been some social media trend to the extent that Museveni is a high school drop-out. Let me say here that although we were not contemporaries at Dar, I found his legacy there and can assure you that he is a graduate of the University of East Africa ( Dar es Salaam Constituent college).
Before 1970 Makerere, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were constituent colleges of the University of East Africa. Yes he is a graduate. My professor the late Tambila Kapwepwe would always ask me about his classmate of the 1960s (President Museveni) the difference being that by then he went by the name, Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni.” Prof Mwambutsya added.
