Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held it’s 26th graduation ceremony where 1031 students completed their studies at different levels. About 45 undergraduate students across the six faculties had first class degrees and they received awards.
Out of these 45 academic giants, there emerged this young energetic man known as Nalubongo Ali who topped them with a CGPA of 4.81 and was almost getting 5! Ali originates from Namutumba district, Bulange Sub-County, Kirerema village/parish.
He attended Victoria Junior School Namutumba and Kisiki College Namutumba for his primary and secondary education respectively. Ali did BCM/ICT and won a government sponsorship on district quarter for his bachelors degree in computer science where he served as a class president of computer science for three years.
On top of being a class president, he was a tutor especially in the fields of scripting languages and database management systems helping his lecturers in their absence.
He said that if was not for the government sponsorship, access to higher Education wouldn’t have been possible because they are many other students at home, yet the resources were few because the parents were not financially stable.
“I liked programming so much from the first day of campus. I did introduction to C programming perfectly and OOP (java) was fun too. I believe it’s this positive attitude to programming which actually formed the basis of my good performance in the course because these are the core components of the course.” Ali narrated with a smile.
According to his friends, Ali is a goal oriented student who gave a lot of time to his books even at the worst conditions. But despite the fact that he was the best performer in Computer Science and MUST at large, Ali is still looking for a job and support so that he can go for further studies so that he can master the Computing area.
In his words, “I like Computer Science and I really want to go for further studies if I can only get a scholarship from any university that is ready to help me achieve the Masters in Computing.” For any assistance, contact Ali on either 0785695311 or 0751476996.
