A first-year student of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has died in a road accident along the Isingiro-Mbarara Road, the university and local media reports have confirmed.
The deceased, Anitah Ainembabazi Keitesi, was pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. She died on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Returning to Campus After a Burial
According to a report by 91.2 Crooze FM, Keitesi was travelling back to campus on Sunday after attending the burial of her aunt at their home in Butenga Village, Isingiro District, over the weekend.
She was riding on a boda boda when the crash occurred shortly after Kaberebere Town. She sustained serious injuries and later died from them. Details of how the crash happened, including whether other vehicles were involved, had not been established at the time of reporting.
University Announces Death
In a public notice, MUST announced the “untimely death” of the student, describing her as a “candle in the wind.” The notice was issued by the Dean of Students, Mr. Ambrose K. Mugisha, who said burial arrangements would be communicated later.
The announcement carried a verse from Psalms 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
The death has left the university community in mourning, coming just as students were returning to campus after the weekend.
