The chairman of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) NRM chapter Titus Muhwezi, recently advertised NRM forms for all those interested in aspiring for guild president at the university at a fee of 100,000/= with an aim of coming up with one candidate out of the many.
But surprisingly only one student by names of Bakaki Zahara from the faculty of medicine showed interest in picking the form. According to some of the aspirants who wished to contest on the ruling party’s card, they failed to register because of ‘hiked’ nomination fees.
“The cause of this was the hiked nomination fee that was intentionally done to eliminate some contestants who failed to meet the requirements and there was also blackmailing of some candidates in favour of others. At this time there was no importance of using nomination fee as one of the requirements because it can not do us a favour of achieving our goals”. One the aspirants who preferred not be disclosed said.
In response, Mr Muhwezi blasted those who failed to raise the subsidized nomination fee of 100K saying the chapter would not operate or hold the electoral process itself without money.
“My brother we are sorry for not working according to your expectations. You can not fail to raise money for the nomination forms and expect the NRM MUST Chapter to go on table and choose you as their candidate without due process.” Muhwezi replied to the complaints.
