Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) staff under their umbrella body Mbarara University of Science and Technology Academic Staff Association (MUSTASA), have lost conviction in their chairperson Dr. John Emenyu, hence firing him immediately.
Emenyu has been dismissed, despite leading the war against University Vice Chancellor Prof Celestine Obua and Secretary Melcure Byaruhanga, who are accused of corruption and other cases of misconduct.
According to the association General Secretary Julius Taremwa, Emenyu has been spying on them and so, they no longer need him in office or need his participation in having Prof Obua and Melcure out of MUST.
They have for that matter therefore gone on strike for the second time until Ministry of Education and Sports resolves this matter. The parliamentary education committee which visited Mbarara on this issue in May has not yet declared its decision.
Obua’s 5-year term has less than a year to end, he maintains that he is not leaving office because he is competent to apply for the second term as a vice chancellor at the age of 66.
