As police tries to calm down the angry students at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, several students are nursing wounds at Mbarara regional referral hospital.
Among these is the current guild speaker Nagawa Hellen Luyinda who was addressing students at the General Assembly she organized to communicate to the students amidst the ongoing demonstration. It is said that she was severely beaten by police officers in the process of chasing the angry students.
It is alleged that another female student was hit by teargas canister as she was running for her life. The victim has been identified as Lilian, a third year student pursuing bachelors of Pharmaceutical sciences. The victim was rushed to the emergency ward for treatment.
According to our reporter at MUST, the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital emergency ward had over 6 students who sustained nasty injuries due to teargas and rubber bullets used by the police.
The situation at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is alarming as students are striking over unfair conditions at the university.
