The Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST) Vice-Chancellor Prof Celestine Obua has come out to distance himself from allegations that he knew about the kidnap and release of Julius Taremwa, the Academic Staff Association General Secretary.
Taremwa yesterday released a statement pinning the Vice-Chancellor in his kidnap which happened over the weekend. Taremwa was reportedly picked from Ishanyu food centre by “3 gun wielding men” on Saturday at around 2:30pm.
Following Taremwa’s statement, the MUST Vice-Chancellor has given him 48 hours to withdraw allegations of “Obua knowing about his kidnap & release.”
Apparently, Taremwa was driven to Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala where he was detained the whole night before meeting Sam Mukwatiriri,a lawyer representing Prof Obua & Research Manager for grants Edith Wakida.
The Mbarara High Court yesterday morning attended to a case of Julius Taremwa Vs Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestine Obua and other MUST officials. The MUST administration misunderstandings has been on and off since 2017.
The MUST Academic Staff Association alleges that Obua’s reappointment was illegal citing financial mismanagement, incompetence among other complaints. We will update you on the court’s decision.
