Tourism and Hotel management students at Muteesa Royal University have threatened to block the University’s 5th graduation ceremony only 9 days to the ceremony.
The students who have been denied clearance after their 3 years of struggle due to failure of a lecturer to hand in marks to a final paper are enraged over being made sacrificial lambs after they fulfilled their part of the bargain.
The aggrieved students blame their misfortune on the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Arthur Serwanga who fired their lecturer, Mr. Siraje Batte, without paying his outstanding salary arrears. According to the students, Mr. Batte went with their marks and promised to submit them as soon as the University paid his salary arrears.
The students told Campus Bee that Professor Serwanga had promised earlier on to solve the problem by paying the lecturer but it seems like he is failing in his endeavors and therefore they needed to take action.
“We have parents that have invested in us for 3 years. We need to produce results and move on to a world where we can support them as well. If courts of law fail, then we shall have to fight for what belongs to us physically” One of the students shouted to a crowd that nodded their heads and screamed in agreement.
This is the first time such an incident is happening in this Mengo based University.
