Soroti University has closed its main gate to all pedestrians and vehicles after granite and stone cladding began coming loose and falling from the gate arch.
In a memo dated October 14, the university’s Deputy Chief of Estates said the defect posed a significant risk to life and property. The closure took effect immediately.
The university said it had agreed with the contractor that built the gate to carry out repairs while it is closed. The gate will only reopen once the work is finished and the university’s own technical staff have confirmed it is safe.
No reopening date has been given.
Getting in and out
Students, staff and visitors have been asked to use the previous alternative access route while the main gate is closed, and to follow all safety instructions around the site.
Soroti University students, how is the closure affecting your movement? Tell us. @campusbee.ug
