Whereas we are watching the failing impeachment of the US president, Donald John Trump, a like precedent already happened in Uganda, where there was a failed impeachment of the notorious Guild President of Nkumba University, like the man has 9 lives.
A year ago, the Bee ran a couple of stories about the planned impeachment of the Guild President, Byron Luswata, of Nkumba University and around November 2019, the university administration blocked students from falling through with the said impeachment on grounds that there was no fair hearing accorded to the president. The students had even reached the extent of chasing him out of the university.
Background to the story shows that there was a planned impeachment of the guild president over allegations of arrogance, incompetence, corruption, greed, ego-centrism and embezzlement among other complaints that were raised.
From what we have gathered, man is still standing, and as if to mock his “impeachers”, he almost says “As you can see, I am not dead” in Black Panthers voice and in attempt to reassert himself, man has made a comeback.
Luswata has dismissed and reshuffled the entire guild cabinet accusing them of “diverting from the student cause” he was quoted as saying and that because they illegally participated in his impeachment troubles. The Bee has received a copy of the new cabinet memo dated 3rd February 2020, that is copied to the Vice Chancellor, University secretary, Dean of students, and the general students body.
“I hereby inform the Student body that … I have in pursuance of the goals of our Manifesto and the Students body in general made changes to the guild cabinet” reads the notice in part.
Some of the victims of the of shuffle include the Guild Speaker who he says undermined the Nkumba University Guild Constitution, 2012 which gave the students fraternity the opportunity to vote their him, their guild president into office.
