Nkumba University is mourning the death of one of its postgraduate students, Angella Kabagambe Hakiza, who passed away just weeks before she was due to graduate.
In an official obituary issued by the university, Nkumba described itself as “deeply saddened” by the loss of Angella, a student in the Master of Human Resource Management programme.
According to the university, Angella had sat her final examination only last week and was scheduled to graduate this October — making her passing all the more painful for the institution, her classmates, and her family.
Colleagues remembered her as peace-loving, soft-spoken, and caring — a description that captured the quiet impact she left on those around her during her time at the university.
“We commiserate with her family and friends; may you find solace in the comfort of the Lord,” the university said in its tribute, adding the prayer: “Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.”
Angella’s death is a sombre reminder of how close she was to completing a significant academic milestone. Having crossed the finish line of her coursework and final assessments, she was on the threshold of earning her Master’s degree — a goal she had worked toward and was only weeks from realising.
