While speaking to journalists on Friday evening, the Kyambogo University Vice-Chancellor Prof Elly Katunguka trashed claims that Robert Asiimwe, the prime suspect in the murder of Emmanuel Mugarura is their student.
Asiimwe, who is believed to have murdered Mugarura in cold blood earlier this week is currently behind bars as investigations continue. According to Katunguka, Asiimwe has never been a Kyambogo student after confirming with the university dean of students.
“The boy is not our student. I directed the dean of students to cross check with the university which year he was admitted and his faculty but he told me that there were no records about the Asiimwe. I am actually going to ask the police to explain how they came up to decide he was our student.” Katunguka said.
More details after the murder have emerged showing that the murderer (Asiimwe) went to Rubaga Social Training Center on Tuesday in an attempt to collect the deceased’s car. He was however denied access by the Guest House staff who tried to confirm with the car owner but his numbers were switched off.
“He came in and introduced himself and told us he had been sent for the car but we declined to give it to him because we had not been given permission by the Superior General. When we called his phone, all his numbers were switched off,” a staff at the training center said.
According to New Vision, a local newspaper, Asiimwe was actually admitted at the Banda-based university under the Faculty of Management and Entrepreneurship to study a Bachelor of Administrative Science and his registration number was 18/U/ASD/4366/PD as a private student.
The deceased was apparently Asiimwe’s former school teacher in Bushenyi and he has been the Superior General of Brothers of St Charles Lwanga (Bannakarooli Brothers).
