During a press conference that was held today morning at Mbuya Primary School, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) officially launched the 7 Hills Run 2020 Edition. Contributions collected from this year’s edition will be used to renovate several KCCA public schools within Kampala.
During the launch that also doubled as a ground breaking ceremony to renovate these schools, it was announced that the renovation will include a complete facelift of the buildings whose work is expected to be done in four weeks.
While making the big announcement earlier today, the NSSF Managing Director, Richard Byarugaba confessed that the Fund is responding to a challenge every year towards contributing to the wellbeing of underprivileged citizens.
“Most of the underprivileged children in Kampala attend these KCCA public schools so it is befitting that our intervention in Education goes towards the improvement of learning conditions in these schools. There is no greater impact you can make on a child or community than through education.” Byarugaba stated.
During the launch, partner companies came through with dummy cheques and officially announced how much they are contributing towards this noble cause. Some of these companies include Umeme, Equity Bank, ICEA Group, Galaxy FM, Multi Choice among many others.
According to the organizers, the 7 Hills Run 2020 Edition will be held on 22nd of this month.
The KCCA Executive Director Eng. Andrew Kitaka revealed that partnering with Institutions like NSSF has gone along in supplementing Government efforts to improve learning conditions in schools.
“When we started this partnership with NSSF, our target was to replace all asbestos roofs in Kampala public primary schools. We are glad that we are almost at the tail end of this endeavor. However, we also realize that some structures are in a very bad shape. That is why we propose to use some proceeds to renovate such structures.” Kitaka said.
Byarugaba called upon individual runners to sign up in big numbers to participate in this run before revealing that they need over 5000 individual runners and participation from over 50 corporate companies if they are to meet their UGX 700 million target.
Individual runners can register at only UGX 25,000 and they can pay by simply dialing the short mobile money code *217*277#.
The 7 Hills Run 2020 Edition will commence at Pearl of Africa Primary School in Nsambya come 22nd March.
