Following Court’s ruling that disqualified Judith Nalukwago, a Makerere student from running for guild presidency, top National Unity Platform (NUP) strongmen have openly endorsed Aaron Oguttu, another student running under the mentioned party.
The latest to endorse Oguttu is Musiri David, a Makerere University politically alert student who has on many occasions led demonstrations against unfair policies at the Ivory Tower. Musiri took to his social media platforms to announce his support for Oguttu, a fellow NUP diehard.
“In the ‘miscellaneous case 135 of 2021 Judith Nalukwago Vs. Makerere University and Winifred Kabambuli’ the judge Emmanuel Baguma ruled that the candidate could not contest in the ongoing race on grounds that she didn’t meet the requirements. This implies that as NUP we are left with no choice but rally behind candidate Oguttu Aaron. He by default becomes the NUP candidate in the Makerere guild race 2021. We appreciate all support, harmony and reconciliation for either candidates for the good of our struggle and we pray that they can work hand in hand and fetch the deserved victory.” Musiri wrote.
Another influential student at Makerere who is backing Oguttu is Obed Derrick, the self styled Strike Machine. Obed, who was aspiring to run for the same leadership position at Makerere abruptly withdrew from the race and rallied behind Oguttu.
Obed is remembered for supporting stranded hostel students during lockdown both financially and with food supplies.
Top NUP leaders in Kamwokya, who are in close contact with Musiri have remained quiet on which leader to support, leaving analysts conclude that they agree with the Bachelor of Commerce student.
