While presiding over the Kyambogo University guild swearing in ceremony on Tuesday, Prof Eli Katunguka, the Vice Chancellor confessed that the institution’s head of electoral commission, Ssembatya Aksam performed way better than Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chairperson and returning officer of the Uganda Electoral Commission – EC.
According to Katunguka, Ssembatya has been their longest serving chairperson of the guild electoral commission, whose performance in the just concluded elections beats Byabakama’s. Katunguka revealed that the results came in time and the winners were declared early.
“I Wanted to say that our Chair of Electoral Commission who has been chair for the longest time performed better than Justice Byabakama. At least we got the results on time, those who contested the results lost peacefully, and they have given up, so Aksam thank you very much.” Katunguka said.
Katunguka congratulated the Kyambogo 17th guild leadership headed by John Mbazira, the Guild President for making it through the electoral process.
Katunguka, who isn’t sure yet whether he should believe Mbazira revealed that the newly elected leader is passionate and convincing before confessing that Mbazira is a person they (administration) can work with.
“I would like to say I am persuaded by your words John, Your Excellency John Mbazira, its not on many occasions that I address by Excellencies but Mbazira I am persuaded by what you said and the need to work together with Management and the student body to keep the peace at the university.” Katunguka said.
While speaking about Mbazira’s request to reduce tuition, Katunkuga revealed that Kyambogo charges the least fees despite the pressure from stakeholders to have it increased.
According to Katunguka, the outgoing leader, Jonathan Tundulu came with a huge desire to change everything including the university leadership, but he’s glad the People Power diehard later cooled down and they worked together smoothly.
