The office of the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU) has released a statement about the resignation of Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi the second top lead of the Christian institution after the Chancellor and Archbishop.
In the statement he addresses to “All UCU Staff and Students”, dated 8th February 2020, the outgoing VC reveals that the actual date for his resignation was supposed to be 31st August 2020, eight months later as is required under the university Statute.
He states that he made a decision to resign earlier so that the “transition from his Vice Chancellorship to another should be well prepared for and given a smooth handover”. He says that he contacted the Chairman of the University Council to begin the search for the next VC early.
The new VC Associate Professor Aaron Mushengyezi was chosen from a list of potential candidates determined by the University Council Resolution with the final decision left to the Archbishop Stanley Ntagali.
Dr. Senyonyi says that he is in compliance with instructions from the Archbishop to prepare the appointment instruments for Mushengyezi. He also assures the addressees of the letter that he will be keeping them informed when the process is completed.
“In the meantime, please be assured that I am committed to the leadership transition of the University”, he shares while requesting the University community to continue praying and supporting the decision for the appointee “so that the transition is characteristic of UCU’s enviable reputation”.
