Makerere University students are today morning meeting with journalists, student leaders and the guild representative council to decide on what their next step is following the closed meeting which was held yesterday with the University Council where it was decided that the 15% increment shall continue to apply to the tuition fees for the remaining period of three years but shall not apply to the functional fees.
However, students feel this is not what they want because all they need is scrapping off the 15% tuition policy completely. The Guild Representative Council says that it feels it’s right to involve the students in deciding what should be done next because they can’t take all decisions on their own without hearing from the students since the policy is affecting them as well.
They have thus come up with a general assembly which is to take place in the freedom square today. We don’t know whether another fresh strike is yet to begin but we shall keep you posted with all the developing stories about this meeting.
