Campus Bee has learnt that the Parliament of Uganda has tasked the Minister of Internal Affairs to investigate and bring to book the people that are creating lists of ‘sures’ and circulating them on social media.
This was after Hon. Mwine Mpaka the Western Youth MP got to the floor of Parliament and informed the house about the scandal that has seen so many ladies’ and gentlemen’s right to privacy violated as their numbers are being shared under the impression that they are sures.
The first list contained contact details of ladies’ names who were referred to as ‘sures’, a slang to mean ladies you can easily hook up with. When the lists of females made rounds in various WhatsApp groups and on Twitter, a second list containing phone numbers of men was released claiming that sures are not only ladies and that there are men who are sures.
The lists attracted a lot of attention on Twitter, giving rise to a hash tag #sureslist. A few people were seen ranting about their contact details being splashed out in the public without their consent whereas others made jokes about it, ignoring the vague intentions of whoever created the lists.
Each list had not less than 230 phone numbers. Most of the contacts on the men’s list were numbers of famous twitter influencers that had been making the most noise about the sures that were released days before.
What started as a joke, has now turned into a serious matter as Hon. Mpaka tabled the sure-list to the Parliament of Uganda. However, no one knows with certainty whether parliament is considering this issue.
