Gulu University Vice-Chancellor, Professor George Ladaah Openjuru, returned to Gulu City to a hero’s welcome following his remarkable achievement of being named the African Educationist of the Year 2023.
The prestigious title, bestowed upon him by the African Leadership Magazine in the United Kingdom, recognized Professor Openjuru’s unwavering dedication to education and community development, particularly in post-conflict northern Uganda.
The award ceremony, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was attended by distinguished figures such as Justice Martha K. Koome, Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, underscoring the significance of Professor Openjuru’s achievements on a continental scale.
Upon his arrival in Gulu City, Professor Openjuru was greeted by a jubilant crowd, with the UPDF brass band escorting him from Layibi Corner to the Gulu University Campus.
The procession was joined by notable figures including Gulu City Woman MP, Aol Betty Ochan, and Gulu City Mayor, Okwonga Alfred, further highlighting the widespread recognition and support for Professor Openjuru’s accomplishments.
