Uganda Christian University (UCU) held her first graduation ceremony for this year, today, the 2nd March 2018 at the main campus university new pitch honoring 373 students at the 6th part of the 18th graduation ceremony that started at 9am. There was a commissioning ceremony first, before the graduation where a formal farewell session organized for the students.
A total of 205 male students against 168 females were celebrated at the event from up to 45 programs including masters, bachelors and diplomas, 6 of which graduated with a first class. Majority of the graduates completed a Masters program.
Some of the students received Masters Degrees in Oil and Gas courses that are taught at the Institute of Petroleum Studies – Kampala, (IPSK) an affiliate institution with UCU where her degrees are awarded from.
The guest of honor for the ceremony was the Bishop of Mityana diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Kazimba. Speaking about academics, he mentioned that academics was about pressure that later becomes pleasure.
“Academics is about pressure but after that pressure, it’s pleasure” he said. He added that, “when you start with pleasure, you end with pressure. Today you have started your pleasure”. To him, graduation was a celebration of the past achievements.
The university will be having seven graduations this year that will be taking place at all the campuses of the university including the different affiliate institutions. Three graduations at the main campus (that includes graduants from Kampala and Arua campuses), two at Mbale campus, and the last two at Bishop Barham University College.
