All is not well at Kabale University as police was involved in a scuffle with students for blocking the nomination process of the aspiring People Power guild candidate, Henry Mbonimpa who is pursuing a Bachelors in Education.
According to the police, they took the move because the university does not support multi-political party system, it being a private university. However, the students still insist that it is an open university and People Power is not a registered political party as yet, as police call it.
The scuffle ended prematurely after the Police contained the situation and fortunately there were no injuries and damages recorded. Among other issues, the angry students accuse the University’s top leaders for siding with the police as well as censoring their rights to expression.
“We want an explanation as to why our favorite contestant was barred from proceeding with his nomination process. We also need to exercise our freedom of expression and speech because human rights are our right not a privilege” furiously said one of the students who preferred anonymity.
We’ll keep you up to speed with all the developments from the electoral process in Kabale University.
