The President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed the retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Bishop Henry Luke Orombi as the second Chancellor of Muni University.
In a letter dated 28th September 2022, President Museveni confirmed the appointment of the former archbishop in the office of the University chancellor.
‘’In exercise of the powers vested in the President by section 30(1) of the universities and other tertiary institutions Act 2001 and acting on the recommendation of the university council, I, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni do hereby appoint Bishop Henry Luke Orombi as Chancellor of Muni University,’’ he confirmed.
Bishop Orombi served as the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala from 2004 until his retirement in December 2012, two years earlier than expected.
He completed his education at St. John’s College in Nottingham, England, where he earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree, and at Bishop Tucker Theological College in Mukono, Uganda, now known as Uganda Christian University.
From 1979 until 1986, he served as the diocesan youth officer in Moyo District and Adjumani District. Then, from 1987 to 1993, he was the archdeacon in Goli in the Nebbi District. He presided as Bishop of the Nebbi Diocese from 1993 until 2003.
Muni University is one of the 10 public universities in Uganda with its main campus is at Muni Hill in the city of Arua in Arua District, West Nile sub-region, in the Northern Region of Uganda.
Bishop Orombi has succeeded Prof. Eric Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko who served as the first vice chancellor of Muni University since September 2016.
