Several students lost valuable property as Makerere International Students’ Hostel (MISH) went up in flames on Thursday evening in Kikoni.
According to the University’s Information Minister who also doubles as the GRC Bio Sciences, Kato Martins, the unfortunate event happened on Thursday evening around 6pm after a short circuit occurred in room M3-10.
“The fire outbreak was due to a short circuit in room M3-10. All the property in that room has been burnt to ashes and some damages in the rooms next to it. No injuries have been detected but then the two students attached to the room have lost their mind due to fear and are currently in the hospital,” said Kato.
Kato said that the guilty custodian failed to give away information regarding this fire outbreak which they eventually acquired from the hostel leaders.
“The guilty custodian shied away from telling us the full details of the happening however the hostel leaders stepped up to the responsibility,” Kato said.
