Ahead of Prophet Elvis Mbonye’s fellowship that went down at Makerere University Rugby Grounds last Saturday September 8th, Pastor Martin Ssempa gave Campus Bee 10 reasons why he believed Makerere students and other people should not waste their time attending this congregation.
According to Pastor Ssempa’s 7th reason, Mbonye is a state agent who does not believe in his own super powers. Ssempa adds that Prophet Mbonye is guarded by over 30 Special Forces Soldiers with threatening machine guns.
“Mbonye is guarded by more than 30 special forces soldiers with threatening machine guns. That means that he is an agent of the state, and two, he does not put much confidence in the super powers he talks about to protect him. His book “testing the powers of the age to come” talks about super powers. But he himself does not depend on those powers to protect him, rather he depends on bullet powers with plenty of Kanyamas. God said, cursed is the man who has confidence in the flesh.” reads Pastor Ssempa’s seventh reason.
Pastor Ssempa adds that Mbonye takes money from poor people like students to live a celebrity life by driving expensive cars as he compared him to Brian White. “Mbonye is a man of mammon. He takes money from the poor people and lives a life of celebrity like Brian White. Driving fancy Range Rovers, and others. He claims to be like Jesus walking into Jerusalem in triumphant entry.” reads part of Ssempa’s fifth reason.
Among other reasons why Ssempa wanted Makerere students to boycott Mbonye’s fellowship is that Mbonye does not promote critical thinking, debate and reflection which is the root of university education.
It is said that the fellowship was initially slated to take place at Makerere Freedom Square but was later transferred to the University’s Rugby Grounds over unclear reasons.
Here are the 10 reasons why Pastor Ssempa wanted Makerere students to boycott Mbonye’s fellowship that went down over the weekend;
- Mbonye is a man who claims to be a god. He manipulates his followers to worship him under the guise of “honoring” him.
- Mbonye has got his followers to dedicate this nation, its economy and politics to him. That means he is not just a prophet, but a king, a god, and a ruler demanding that we all submit to him.
- Mbonye sits on his throne alone without a wife. I keep asking him, where is your wife. If you are seated like a king on the throne, why dont you have a wife. He says his wife does not come to church, nor does she come to his meetings. This is from his interview in the observer a few years back. What does the wife know, which we dont know?
- Mbonye spends more time speaking about prophecies instead of teaching people the true word of God from the Bible. I have asked that his people who love and defend him to give us a “statement of belief” so that we see what are his stated beliefs and check them on the bible. No one has given me any as yet. They dont have it.
- Mbonye is a man of mammon. He takes money from the poor people and lives a life of celebrity like Brian White. Driving fancy Range Rovers, and others. He claims to be like Jesus walking into Jerusalem in triumpant entry. I told them, that indeed Jesus rode on a donkey not a horse or chariot into Jerusalem. A donkey is the bodaboda of the time. Big men like Roman generals rode on charitots and horses. But Jesus was humble and if Mbonye wants to be like Jesus, let him get off his high horse, stop robbing poor people like students.
- Mbonye subjects his leaders and followers to lick his boots. This is the total opposite of Jesus who said that the greatest must be the servant of all. Jesus took the towel and washed the feet of the disciples, but Mbonye makes them kiss and lick his feet. Its evil and cruel.
- Mbonye is guarded by more than 30 special forces soldiers with threatening machine guns. That means that he is an agent of the state, and that two, he does not put much confidence in the super powers he talks about to protect him. His book “testing the powers of the age to come” talks about super powers. But he himself does not depend on those powers to protect him, rather he depends on bullet powers with plenty of Kanyamas. God said, cursed is the man who has confidence in the flesh.
- Mbonye uses cheap illusions of camera and lighting to claim that some angels have come to him in his meeting. He then proceeds to tell his people that “a time comes when you have to decide whether the person speaking and standing infront of you is man or God”? Mbonye is making himself to become the god. This is evil for God tells us worship no other.
- Mbonye impresses his followers with supposed revelations and words of predicting the future. The bible tells us that in Ephesus there was a girl who made her people a lot of money by prophecy and prediction, because she had a familiar spirit . Satan also has spirits which predict and kulagula. The Balogo, Bachwezi and Basamize also predict using Astral projections and sorcery. We cannot depend on prophecy alone, because there are also true and false prophets. There many Bafere who are miracle workers.
- Mbonye does not promote critical thinking, debate and reflection which is the root of university education. He does not debate, he makes his people follow him blindly with much fear that “he is the annoited man of god”. University requires men and women who can engage in ideological contestation, debate and rigorous study. Mbonye has said nothing on all relevant issues of the day from #socialmediatax to the #Aruafracas or #Nyegenyege. How can we have a person who is supposedly handed the nations economy, politics, education etc, who cannot discuss or comment on issues of the day. Jesus discussed on all issues from theology to taxation. On Taxes he said “give to ceasar what belongs to ceasar and to God what belongs to HIm’. Because of this I will not go to Mbonyes meeting, now do I recommend a critical thinker to waste his time following #Mbonye.
It should be noted that Pastor Ssempa has over the years been a mentor to Makerere students through engaging them in discussions at the University’s Prime Time event.
