The jailed student of YMCA Brian Isiko has asked that he is released on bail so he can attend school as he awaits the determination of his appeal he logged through the court. This was through his lawyers led by Ramathan Waiswa on Tuesday afternoon.
Isiko, 25, was early this month sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after being convicted of Cyber Harassment and Offensive Communication for sending love message to Kabarole Woman Member of Parliament, Sylivia Rwabwogo. He has since appealed against the sentence and also applied for bail pending hearing of his appeal at the High Court. His two sureties presented are Godfrey Waako, the Assistant Academic Registrar for Kyambogo University and Grace Reagan Muganza, a commander of the UPDF reserve forces.
However, the state prosecutor, Gladys Nyanzi objected to the bail application sighting that court is yet to receive substantial proof that he is a student at YMCA in Jinja.“He only brought his admission letter but it does not show he is yet admitted,” she stated. She further asked court to dismiss his application for bail.
Court decided to give its judgement on 3rd August.
